THE RULES OF
PINBALL
Part I

IS THE GOAL SIMPLY NOT TO LOSE THE BALL ?

While keeping the ball in play is essential, pinball is more than just a defensive game of avoiding the ball falling into the drain. Not only the primary goal is to keep the ball from being lost but to maximize your score while doing so. Here's a more nuanced breakdown of the goals in pinball:

  • Score Maximization: The ultimate goal in pinball is to achieve the highest score possible. This involves hitting various targets, ramps, and bumpers to accumulate points. Different targets yield different point values, and skilled players learn to prioritize their shots to maximize their scores.

  • Missions, Objectives and Achievements: Pinball machines often have specific missions, objectives, or achievements that, when completed, yield additional points or unlock special features. These objectives could involve hitting particular targets, completing a sequence of shots, or achieving specific combinations.

  • Multiball Modes: Some pinball machines have a "multiball" mode, where multiple balls are in play simultaneously. Activating multiball modes often requires completing certain objectives. This mode provides an opportunity for high-scoring maneuvers and is a significant part of pinball strategy.
